Animal House is a photomontage that combines self-portraiture and found media to create an ecosystem that embraces the traditional and surreal. My project addresses themes of idealism and overconsumption, grabbing inspiration from the mid-twentieth-century lifestyle and its newfound conveniences and luxuries from Tupperware, microwaves, and exotic pets. Animal House sensationalizes the American expectation that more is better by reflecting on the 1950s housewife trope and America’s Golden Age of financial stability.
